My name is Nick Bekker. I am a South African, living in Johannesburg. I lived in Asia for 12 years - in 3 different cities/towns in Thailand for 9 years, and in Singapore for 3 years. During that time, I had the privilege of travelling to various countries around the world, including a few trips back to South Africa. That is why I have chosen to call my web page "proselytus" - I am a sojourner and for the past 12 years I have been an alien and a stranger, living in and travelling to strange lands. But on a spiritual level too, I recognise that I am merely a sojourner, a stranger, just passing through on this amazing journey called "life". (It just so happens that I am a converted heathen too:-)

I have been working as the Executive Director of OMF Southern Africa for the past year. Starting in May 2016, I will be taking a up a pastoral role with Gracepoint Methodist Church in Glenferness in addition to my OMF role. This is a new and exciting next phase in the journey of my life and ministry - I’m looking forward to it.

We have 3 children - born in Thailand, South African by citizenship, former residents of Singapore and now permanently living in SA. They too are sojourners.
I am a follower of Christ. I don't like to call myself a "Christian", (although technically, I am), because when you're put into the "Christian" box you then need to tick so many other boxes, such as "evangelical", "Baptist", "Calvinist", "Amillenialist", "fundamentalist", etc. My faith in, and walk with Christ, does not fit comfortably into any of the boxes that Christendom will have me tick. I don't even fully know, or really care, what half those categories mean!

I have been in so-called "full-time Christian ministry" (a misnomer if ever one existed) in various capacities and roles, for the past 17 years. I believe that I exist to see God glorified in and through me as I live by the indwelling life of Jesus Christ.

What follows in these pages are glimpses into my life and the random thoughts, musings and mutterings of a "proselytus".
